Wildman's dived for cover knowing Cross is somewhere in the rafters of the run down factory. At least behind the crates there are less places for Cross to sneak up on him. Using his bat sonar seemed like a good idea on paper but Wildman completely forgot all of Cross' senses are enhanced all he did was tell Cross where to find him!
